Troubleshooting
ADT Notifications depend on accurate enrollment and reliable feed delivery. If expected notifications are missing or delayed, review enrollment status, monitor HL7 feed delivery, and validate endpoint processing to identify and resolve the issue.
Monitor Enrollment
Enrollment status determines whether an ADT Notification is generated when an HL7 ADT message is processed. To maintain accuracy, review your enrollment statuses in the following ways.
- Use the FHIR Group
@membersoperation to confirm which patients were enrolled at the time of the hospital event. - Confirm that your enrollment lists are updated in a timely manner to reflect patient attribution changes.
- If a patient is not enrolled, no notification will be generated for the event.
Monitor Feed Delivery
Feed delivery issues can cause missing or delayed notifications. It is helpful to keep the following monitoring practices in mind.
- Monitor inbound message volume and delivery patterns to detect delivery gaps.
- Confirm that your endpoint is actively receiving messages and returning acknowledgment (ACK) responses as expected.
- If message volume drops unexpectedly, coordinate with Health Gorilla Support to investigate potential feed or hospital-side issues.
- If ACK responses are not returned, Health Gorilla Support may detect delivery issues during monitoring.
Validate Notification Processing
You are responsible for validating that ADT Notifications are processed correctly in your environment. To do this:
- Verify that inbound messages are logged and parsed as expected.
- Monitor internal processing logic to ensure that duplicate or update notifications (such as A08) are handled correctly.
- Confirm that all required workflows are triggered from received notifications.
Missing Notifications
If expected notifications are not received, consider the following possible causes:
- The patient was not enrolled at the time the HL7 ADT message was processed.
- The hospital did not send an HL7 ADT message for the encounter. Message availability depends on each hospital’s EHR configuration.
- The HL7 message was received, but your endpoint failed to process it or return an ACK response.
- Network or endpoint outages affected message delivery.
Contacting Support
Contact Health Gorilla Support if:
- You experience a persistent gap in expected ADT Notification volume.
- You detect delivery delays that exceed typical real-time behavior.
- You need to validate feed delivery after endpoint maintenance or transport changes.
- You require assistance confirming message receipt from a specific participating hospital.
