Core Capabilities
Health Gorilla delivers its services through three product families that share the same high-availability FHIR core and security model. Each family supports distinct clinical and operational workflows and can operate independently or together.
Record Retrieval
Products in the Record Retrieval family provide on-demand access to longitudinal health records across national networks and connected sources.
Products
- Patient360 aggregates a complete patient record by issuing queries across Carequality, CommonWell, eHealth Exchange, TEFCA, and other connected networks.
- Patient Chart Viewer displays the aggregated patient record stored in the FHIR core and can be embedded in an EHR or portal using SMART on FHIR or an iFrame.
- Individual Access Service (IAS) enables token-based identity verification to support accurate, consumer-directed record retrieval.
Record retrieval primarily uses asynchronous FHIR R4 workflows, where results are processed and delivered after network queries complete. Synchronous retrieval is supported for legacy systems, smaller datasets, or testing scenarios. Bulk or scheduled transfers can be performed using the $export operation.
Typical Clients
Typical clients include EHR vendors, digital health platforms, telehealth providers, and analytics teams that require comprehensive patient histories for care coordination or quality reporting.
Common Use Cases
- A telehealth platform retrieves a patient’s record through a direct API integration to populate a visit summary.
- An EHR embeds Patient360 using a SMART on FHIR iFrame to display external records alongside local data.
- A consumer-facing application enables patients to retrieve their own records for identity proofing using IAS.
Subscription Services
The Subscription Services family delivers real-time clinical event notifications and continuous data updates through FHIR Subscription or HL7 v2 messaging.
Products
- Clinical Alerts sends encounter notifications after a clinical document is retrieved from a connected network. Each alert can include curated FHIR resources or synthetic HL7 v2 ADT messages.
- ADT Notifications provides near-real-time admission, discharge, and transfer alerts directly from hospital HL7 v2 ADT message feeds, with optional conversion to FHIR resources.
Typical Clients
Typical clients include care management organizations, population health vendors, regional health information exchanges (HIEs), large health systems, EHR channel partners, and provider groups that need immediate notification of patient admissions, discharges, or other clinical events.
Common Use Cases
- A care management organization monitors hospital admissions across multiple facilities and triggers patient outreach workflows.
- A chronic disease management application receives automatic updates when new lab results are available.
- An EHR integration displays notifications directly in the clinician’s workflow to improve awareness of patient activity.
Orders and Results
The Orders and Results family supports electronic ordering of diagnostic tests and retrieval of structured results from national and regional laboratories.
Products
Lab Network enables organizations to place electronic lab orders and retrieve normalized results that flow into the FHIR core, where they can trigger Clinical Alerts or be accessed through Patient360.
Typical Clients
Typical clients include multi-hospital networks, enterprise EHR implementers, virtual care providers, diagnostic service companies, and health systems seeking a single interface for multi-lab ordering and results delivery.
Common Use Cases
- A virtual care provider uses direct API integration to place orders and retrieve results, streamlining patient visits.
- An EHR incorporates Lab Network services so clinicians can order tests and view results without managing multiple lab interfaces.
Cross-Solution Workflows
Health Gorilla’s modular products can be combined to support more advanced interoperability and automation scenarios. Because all products share the same FHIR core and patient-matching services, workflows can span multiple solution families without additional configuration or trust establishment.
| Workflow | Combined Solutions | Communication Method |
|---|---|---|
| Retrieve a patient’s longitudinal record, then receive alerts when new encounters occur | Patient360 + Clinical Alerts | FHIR R4, FHIR Subscription |
| Retrieve records and share structured data back to national networks | Patient360 + Individual Access Service (IAS) | FHIR R4 $merge |
| Query lab results in real time and trigger event notifications for abnormal findings | Lab Network + Clinical Alerts | FHIR R4, FHIR Subscription |
| Launch the Patient Chart Viewer from within an EHR to display retrieved data alongside local records | Patient360 + Patient Chart Viewer | SMART on FHIR or iFrame |
| Monitor inpatient admissions and retrieve discharge summaries for continuity of care | ADT Notifications + Patient360 | HL7 v2, FHIR R4 |
| Maintain patient record freshness by combining initial retrieval with background monitoring | Patient360 + Clinical Alerts + ADT Notifications | FHIR R4, HL7 v2 |
| Support consumer access with verified identity and patient-directed data retrieval | Individual Access Service (IAS) + Patient360 | FHIR R4, token-based access |
